No doubts- tastes differ, and so as always the Winners of the World Architecture Festival are mostly surprising.
This year the World Architecture Festival, international contest awarding best buildings worldwide, among them best school and best office architecture as well as best cultural building and best production building, took place in Berlin from 16 to 18 November.
As every year: there are new winners in every nomination and according to the results of the Festival Committee the Winner of the Best House 2016 is the passive house of architecture OHLAB / Oliver Hernaiz Architecture Lab - given for its completed building situated in Mallorca and named "House MM".
The prestigious architecture contest has awarded three projects of the Spanish study OHLAB, including this construction as the best house. Simple solutions and high efficiency distinguish MM House, which is supplied by rainwater and where it is not necessary to turn on the heat.
The study OHLAB was the surprise of this year. They came for the first time the World Architecture Festival 2016 held in Berlin and returned shortly after home to Mallorca (where they have established after shooting for Shanghai, Madrid and New York), as the study most awarded study in this year contest. Three awards to three simple projects. "Unexpected" - say Jaime Oliver, director and Paloma Hernaiz this architectural laboratory
The house was concepted to be a home for a recently retired pair, and got to be built on a relatively small plot with a limited budget and high environmental awareness. The outgoing point was that the pair is living alone, but also sometimes get a visit of children and grandchildren, so it still important to have enough space for those occasions, while the rest of the time could remain closed with no need to clean it. Besides very interesting positioning concept of the building on the plot, there are different shapes of every room - so all 4 Dimensions optically crossing and merging. Costs of the construction: 1.350€/m2. Of course the most important in this house concept is "zero consumption" approach, due to resources management, such as sun energy, rain water, sunlight there is no consumption from outside.
